Barcocina

Maximón

Loch Bar

Ouzo Beach
Ouzo Beach overlooking the harbor. This beautifully-designed bar is a fantastic place to drink and dine for National Eat Outside day. Sip on something summery like an "Olympian's Delight," made with rum, mastiha, coconut, strawberry, and lime.

Hampden Yards

Maienfels Biergarten downtown is the perfect outdoor place to meet up for some after-work drinks. This outdoor beer garden has plenty of beer options, but they also have some fun traditional bites, like pretzels, bratwurst, and sauerkraut.

Drift Bar
National Eat Outside Day is a great opportunity to try out one of Baltimore's newer spots. Drift Bar, Canton’s new floating cocktail bar, has a superb selection of cocktails.

Where to Celebrate

Cherry Hills Arts & Music Waterfront Festival
This year marks the 7th annual Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival, held from 1pm to 10pm at Middle Branch Park. The festival is a celebration of unity for Baltimore and beyond, featuring local musicians, interactive art opportunities, and much more.

AVAM’s Pet Parade
Do you have a patriotic pet? The American Visionary Art Museum’s Pet Parade is bound to be the cutest event of the holiday. Pets will parade through Federal Hill, then compete in a talent show. The most paw-some participants will even receive prizes! The event starts at 9am, so it’s the perfect place to kick off your celebration.

The Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Independence Day Celebration
The Baltimore Museum of Industry is hosting an Independence Day Celebration on the waterfront in Federal Hill, starting at 6pm. The event is a fundraiser, so not only will you get the best view of the fireworks, but you’ll also be giving back to our city. Tickets are $95 per vehicle and must be purchased in advance. As a bonus, museum admission is included with your ticket.

Baltimore's Biggest Fireworks Show
If you want the quintessential Charm City Fourth of July experience, you need to see the fireworks over the Inner Harbor. The fireworks will start around 9:15pm, but you might want to get there early to secure a good spot. If you do, you can enjoy food, games, a DJ along the promenade, and so much more.

Fourth of July at Fort McHenry
Want to spend the national holiday at a historic site? The Fourth of July event at Fort McHenry is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend Independence Day at the birthplace of the star-spangled banner. History buffs will appreciate their schedule of events, including park ranger-hosted lessons.

Let It Snowball
Don’t forget to have one (or a few) of Baltimore’s quintessential summer treat, the snowball. If you’re not familiar with them, snowballs are similar to a snow cone, but with finer shaved ice. They usually have marshmallow topping, too. Try one from Quality Snowballs in Hampden or Crushed Velvet in Federal Hill.

Don’t Scream, Have Ice Cream
You can’t go wrong with a classic ice cream, either. Baltimore is home to some incredible scoop shops, like The Charmery in Hampden. They have some nostalgic flavors that are perfect for summer, such as Sunday Morning Cartoon, featuring a Frosted Flakes-inspired base and cereal marshmallow. Another top-tier spot is Bmore Licks, with locations in Federal Hill and Canton. Be sure to try the Cookie Monster for a fun-filled summer treat!

Get a Little Crabby
Want another Baltimore food favorite that’s perfect for summer? Make sure to get steamed crabs. There’s nothing like a refreshing seafood dinner after a long day in the sun. LP Steamers in Locust Point has delicious crab dishes, and a beautiful rooftop deck if you’re hoping for a sunset view. Captain James is another excellent option. Their Crab Deck is open until September, serving up all-you-can-eat crabs and more.

Cheers to Summer
Grab your friends or coworkers for an outdoor happy hour. There are lots of great bars and restaurants with outdoor seating in the city. Try a margarita from Bayside Cantina in Canton––and don’t miss the nachos or crab dip. Little Havana in Federal Hill has all the classics, plus lots of fun mocktails too, including Sober Tom, made with lemon sage yerba mate, rosemary and citrus. For extra summer vibes, visit Ouzo Beach in Harbor East for an unforgettable waterfront experience.

Take a Dip
Before feasting on crab dip, go for a dip in the pool! The Four Seasons in Harbor East has a luxurious pool complete with reservable cabanas and a bar & grill. Each year, Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor veterans who have died in service and commemorate their sacrifices. It was declared a federal holiday in 1971 and is now celebrated annually on the last Monday of May.

Honoring Veterans This Memorial Day
If you’re looking for a way to honor veterans this Memorial Day, we’ve gathered a few ideas. From historic memorials to exciting fundraisers, there are lots of things to do here in Baltimore this Memorial Day.

Participate in a Fundraiser
Consider giving back through a fundraiser or other Memorial Day events. One example is The Murph Challenge, an annual fundraiser event honoring LT. Michael P. Murphy. Participants complete physical challenges and compete to make the leaderboard, honoring the lieutenant and the sacrifices of all veterans.

Display Your Red, White, and Blue
Show your support for veterans with the colors of the flag. Wear a red, white, and blue outfit, or get some festive decorations for your apartment. If you choose to put up a flag, make sure to follow the Department of Veterans Affairs' guidelines for proper flag display.

Participate in Memorial Day Traditions
There are also lots of traditions and events associated with the holiday. Some organizations pass out paper poppies as a sign of remembrance that you can wear. Or, you can get crafty and make your own.

Visit a War Memorial
There are many war memorials and important sites here in Baltimore that you can visit in honor of Memorial Day.

You can visit the Grove of Remembrance, which honors World War I veterans, or stop by the World War II Memorial in Medfield.

Or, visit the Maryland Korean War Memorial located in Canton Waterfront Park, which honors veterans of the Korean War.

The War Memorial is another Baltimore landmark that pays respect to all Maryland veterans.

Also not too far from your home at 101 Cross Street is Fort McHenry, a historic site that symbolizes the efforts of American soldiers at the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.

Celebrate Earth Day in Baltimore
This year, our city is hosting some great Earth Day events. From Earth Day clean-ups to gardening events, there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate our planet right here in Baltimore.

Clean-Ups
Everybody do your share! Clean-up events are one of the most popular Earth Day traditions. It’s a great way to show our community some love and give back to Baltimore.

Help keep Patterson Park beautiful at the Earth Day Extravaganza clean-up on Saturday, April 22nd from 9am-noon. Or, head to O'Donnell Square Park on Saturday at 10am for an Earth Day Community Clean-Up & Seed Swap. You can bring seeds, plants, and equipment to help spruce. up the park's gardens. If you don't have a green thumb, you can still help pick up around the park.

Want to get a workout in, too? Try the Hands On HIIT Earth Day Clean-Up at Canton Waterfront Park on Sunday, April 23rd at 11am. Plan to bring a yoga mat for the workout, but clean-up gear will be provided.

Get Your Green On
Pick up some greenery for your apartment this Earth Day! Federal Hill Ace Hardware's Garden Party is the perfect time to stock up on plants and gardening essentials. Plants, pottery, and plenty more will be on sale for 20% off. Plus, from 10am-2pm they'll have fun giveaways and local gardening experts on hand to answer your gardening questions.

Or, add a pop of color to your space with a free floral arrangement. Check out the Flower Bar at Earth Day at the Square on April 22nd, a Mother Nature-themed market with live music, food, and more. Learn something new and join your neighbors for an educational Earth Day event.

Restaurants & Food
Home Maid’s founder Derrick Faulcon set out to create a standard-setting brunch experience here in Baltimore. Everything is made from scratch with only the highest-quality ingredients, all meticulously sourced. Their weekends-only menu features some delectable brunch plates, including breakfast sandwiches and chicken and waffles.

Papi Cuisine’s Afro-Latin fusion dishes have been a Baltimore favorite for years. Owner Alex Perez’s menu items are inspired by the family recipes of his Dominican father and African American grandmother. Papi Cusine started out as a food delivery service, and ultimately grew into the neighborhood favorite it is today.

Located in the Black-owned Ivy Hotel, Magdalena serves bistro fare at the intersection of European traditions and Maryland flair. The restaurant welcomed its first Black chef in 2021, Chef Scott Bacon, who brings more than 11 years of experience to the table.

Looking for something unique? Try a hot dog at Sporty Dog. Diners are encouraged to customize their dogs to their hearts' content. So, go ahead and pile on the toppings! Owners LaShauna and Daejonne, a mother and daughter team, want everyone to "sport your dog" and make the dining experience fun.

Neopol is another great family-run food business, led by Dorian Brown and his mother Barbara Lahnstein. They specialize in smoked meats, including fish, turkey, sausage, and more. Each is cooked to perfection in a signature red metal smoker, available at many retail locations across Baltimore.

Desserts
Satisfy your sweet tooth with a delicious creation from Midnite Confection. This mother-and-son team whips up incredible desserts, including their signature StrangeLove cupcakes. These tasty treats combine two desserts in one, like a lemon cupcake with a blueberry pie filling and lemon buttercream. They also have cookies and more available to order.

If you're in the mood for ice cream, try one of Taharka Brother’s unique flavors like Mintflix and Chillz. Co-owned by 6 individuals united by a shared vision, this ice cream company gives back through its Baltimore-focused mission.

We also love Berries by Quicha, home to Baltimore’s favorite chocolate-covered strawberries. Founder Quicha has quickly become known as the go-to dessert creator for DMV residents and celebrities alike – including President Obama and Beyoncé.

Drinks
Don’t forget drinks! Check out Serenity Wine Cafe, located in Locust Point. It’s not your average wine bar – it’s the first self-serve wine establishment in Baltimore. At Serenity, guests can choose from 16 varieties and utilize the pour-your-own taps for a personalized experience. It’s the brainchild of owner Nneka Bilal, who uses wisdom gained from over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry.

For a caffeinated beverage, visit Koba Cafe in Federal Hill. This cozy cafe has a welcoming atmosphere and delicious coffee drinks. The cafe was started by owner Adama in September 2005. While he was pursuing a career in civil engineering, he worked part-time in a coffee shop, where he realized the community-building power that cafes can have. He started Koba Cafe shortly after, and the rest is history.

Now, bars and restaurants are getting super creative with their mocktail recipes. Even if you’re not participating in Dry January, it’s fun to try a mocktail once and a while. 

Great Mocktails to Try in Baltimore 
Lots of Baltimore establishments are offering spirit-free cocktails this January and beyond. Here are some of our favorites:

Dutch Courage
You don’t need alcohol to feel a little Dutch courage here at this popular bar located in Remington. Dutch Courage offers 4 specialty spirit-free drinks and a few non-alcoholic beers and wines. Among them include the “N.A. Grongi”, an alcohol-free twist on the Negroni, and the “Free Bird”, made with lyre cane spirit, Aperitif Rosso, New Orleans bitters, lime, and smoked pineapple.

The Point 
Over in Fells Point, The Point is serving tasty mocktails of their own, including a "Mock-jito" and a "Spicy Mocktail Mule" made with Spice 94, jalapeño syrup, and lime ginger beer. You can also try non-alcoholic Speedlip spirits here, available in 3 unique flavors. 

Duck Duck Goose
Duck Duck Goose in Fells Point is known for their brasserie-inspired menu featuring local ingredients and unique combinations. Their zero-proof cocktails are no exception. Try the "Matcha Moi" with matcha, agave, lemon, tonic, and egg white, or the "Mandarine Du Sud" with seedlip citrus, tangerine, lime, pistachio, and egg whites.

Wicked Sisters
Located in Hampden, Wicked Sisters is another popular destination for Instagram-worthy food and beverages, especially around brunch time. Try a refreshing Cucumber Mule or a local favorite, "Hampden Punch," in apple, cranberry, ginger, or lime.

Food Market
Another Hampden spot, Food Market, has multiple spirit-free drink options on both their brunch and dinner menus. During dinner, you can try a "Grapefruit & Thyme" virgin cocktail or other non-alcoholic favorites, like kombucha. At brunch, try their "Gucci Lemonade," made with blueberry, mint, lemongrass, and yummy house-made lemonade. 

Verde
Over in Canton, Verde has two spirit-free drink options to pair with their tasty pizzas. You can try "Citrus & Lace," made with basil-ginger syrup, lemon, and club soda, or "Savannah Unknown," featuring peach nectar, lemon, and housemade grenadine.

NiHao
Head a few blocks down to visit another Canton favorite: NiHao. This restaurant is chosen by Baltimore locals for its delicious contemporary Chinese food. They have 2 spirit-free cocktails, each featuring Bare zero-proof spirits. Try "Convinced a King" with Bare bourbon or "Shaken, Not Slurred" with Bare gin.

Gunther 
Our last (but certainly not least) recommendation is Gunther in Brewer's Hill. They have 3 excellent zero-proof cocktails, each with house-made ingredients. "The Official Red Ryder" has house-made cranberry spiced shrub, while the "Soul Temple" includes blood orange saffron bitters. The "Rose of Althea" is made with house-made hibiscus shrub. You can’t go wrong!

Farm Getaways
Take a miniature road trip to scope out some foliage and visit one of the area’s many local farms. Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival is the perfect place to get your pumpkin fix, every Wednesday through Sunday starting September 24th. 

Or, get lost in a good way at the Maryland Corn Maze. This is not your typical corn maze––it’s 8 acres long and filled with surprises. When you find your way out, you can stop by the general store to enjoy farm-fresh refreshments.

Apple season has begun, so don your flannel and head to the orchard! Baugher’s Orchard in Westminster and Lohr’s Orchard in Harford County each have amazing apple-picking opportunities and fall goodies. If you’re short on time, visit Weber’s Farm, just a 20-minute drive from 101 Cross Street. It’s the perfect place to snag a few fresh cider donuts for the weekend.

Seasonal Brews
Oktoberfest is a classic fall tradition. You can partake in festive German games, fun contests, and, of course, plenty of beer at Guilford Hall Brewery’s Oktoberfest event on September 24th! Or, head to Max’s Taphouse anytime throughout the weekend for their Oktoberfest party. They’ll have kegs of dozens of German beers to try. Prost!

Prefer pumpkiny ales? Check out PumpkinFest 2022 at Falling Branch Brewery. With seasonal beers, pumpkin picking, hayrides, and more, it’s truly a fall dream come true. You can also head to Monument City Brewing on the 24th for the Festival der Lagerbier, featuring 20+ breweries from the area. Proceeds will benefit Friends of Patterson Park, so it’s a great chance to give back to our community.

Local Events
Bring your friends for a Paint and Sip night at Avenue Kitchen. They’re hosting a fall-themed class on September 25th. A talented local artist will teach you how to paint a gorgeous autumnal painting while you enjoy a drink (or two!) and some snacks.

Support small biz this fall and enjoy a fun afternoon at The Don't Know Tavern Fall Festival. The festival will start at noon on Saturday, September 24th. Get there early to catch lots of incredible craft vendors, food options, and drink specials before they sell out.

Every day is a great day to celebrate our furry friends, but the holiday was officially adopted into New York State Legislation in 2013. It was started by Colleen Page in 2004 as a way to raise awareness for dogs in need of adoption. Now, we spend the day honoring our pups and dogs everywhere. If you’re not already a pet parent, it’s a great time to think about adopting a pet of your own or donating to a local shelter.

As a dog-friendly community, we love our four-legged residents at 101 Cross Street. We have a dog washing station, located on the first floor near the mail room, that's the perfect place to wash and dry your pup. We’re also building a 1,200 SF dog park on the top floor of the resident garage! Stay tuned for more info.

Beaches & Boardwalks
Nothing says summer quite like a day at the beach. You can get your seaside fix at one of the beautiful beaches in Delaware. Known for its charming mile-long boardwalk, Rehoboth offers the quintessential summer boardwalk experience just 2.5 hours away. If you like to spend the nights out after a long day at the beach, head 2 miles further down the coast to Dewey Beach. It has great nightlife and an impressive list of live music options. Or, head up to nearby Lewes, Delaware to take the ferry to New Jersey and check out Cape May. Cape May has a beautiful promenade, stunning beaches, and a rich history as America’s “oldest seaside resort”.

Coastal Charm
There’s something for everyone at Ocean City, about a 3 hour's drive from 101 Cross Street. From golfing, to water sports, to sunset dinners, you can fill your days with adventure in OCMD. And with over 200 restaurants, your meals can be as varied as your activities! St. Michael’s is another one of our favorite coastal towns in Maryland, located just an hour and a half away. You don’t have to travel by plane to enjoy an island getaway! With stunning salt marshes and even wild horses, Assateague Island feels like another world, but it’s just a few hours away. You can visit Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge to see wildlands and wild animals or spend the afternoon on the beach. Looking for a more low-key stay? Take a quick trip to Tilghman Island, just shy of 2 hours away from 101 Cross Street, with plentiful opportunities for sailing, lounging, and dining.

Lakes & Mountains
If you’re looking to get in touch with nature and spend a weekend among the trees, head to one of the area’s beautiful lake regions. Deep Creek Lake is about a 3 hour's drive from your apartment home, and while it’s a popular ski destination in the winter, it offers lots of summer activities as well. Or, travel around 3 hours up to PA and visit the Pocono Mountains. If you’d like to make a weekend trip out of it, there are lots of great accommodations ranging from cute cottages to luxurious hotels & spas.

Historic Hotspots
History buffs will appreciate the historical setting of Harper’s Ferry, home to amazing sites dating back to the 1800s. Learn more about the town’s story at the many museums and exhibits, then enjoy a hike along the 20 plus miles of trails in Harper’s Ferry. It’s only an hour away, perfect for a day trip! Bedford Springs is another great historic destination. It’s about a 2-hour drive, but it’s worth the visit––Omni Bedford Springs is a fantastic resort, where you can golf, relax, have a day at the spa, and so much more.
