Have a Paw-some National Dog Day

Have a Paw-some National Dog Day

  |     |   Events

Dog dayPet parents, it’s time to paw-ty…August 26th is National Dog Day! This special holiday commemorates dogs and all the ways they touch our lives, from being our favorite companions as pets to saving lives as working dogs.

Every day is a great day to celebrate our furry friends, but the holiday was officially adopted into New York State Legislation in 2013. It was started by Colleen Page in 2004 as a way to raise awareness for dogs in need of adoption. Now, we spend the day honoring our pups and dogs everywhere. If you’re not already a pet parent, it’s a great time to think about adopting a pet of your own or donating to a local shelter.

As a dog-friendly community, we love our four-legged residents at 101 Cross Street. We have a dog washing station, located on the first floor near the mail room, that's the perfect place to wash and dry your pup. We’re also building a 1,200 SF dog park on the top floor of the resident garage! Stay tuned for more info.

Treat Your Pup For National Dog Day
Ready to plan the ulti-mutt day with your pup? Check out these doggone great Baltimore businesses.

Dog Parks
There’s nothing better than a day at the dog park. Fortunately, Baltimore is home to some fantastic parks with great amenities for pets and pet parents alike. Patterson Dog Park in Highlandtown features a great off-leash area, as well as plenty of trails to explore around the park. Canton Dog Park also has a fully fenced-in area for your pup to romp and water fountains so they can stay hydrated during the dog days of summer. Adventure-seeking canines can visit the water slide at Locust Point Dog Park and explore the beautiful astroturf field.

Treats & Toys
This holiday is a great opportunity to spoil your BFF with an extra-special treat! Visit Howl in Hampden to shop an impressive selection of treats, toys, and trinkets. Their assortment of high-quality, ethically-sourced pet products includes something for every dog.

Playtime
Is your dog more of a social butterfly? They’ll love spending the day at Downtown Dog Resort’s doggy daycare. Your pet can enjoy playtime with their pals, then come hang out with you after work––it’s a win-win for everyone. If you want to join in the fun and spend time with other pet parents while your dogs play, check out Bark Social in Brewer’s Hill. This unique space is the self-proclaimed “dog-lovingest place on the planet” and we have to agree. With food and drinks, pet play areas, and dog-friendly activities, it’s a dream come true for pet people.

Grooming & Spas
You can also consider treating your pup to a relaxing day at the doggy spa. Happy Dog in Fell’s Point offers a variety of luxurious experiences for your good boy or girl, from a medicinal mud bath featuring 100% natural ingredients to a pet acupuncture session that can relieve pain and reduce stress. Or, visit Heart and Paw, another Fell’s Point pet paradise. Their pro stylists can help your dog look good and feel great with a cute new ‘do.
