From fireworks to firing up the grill, there’s so much to look forward to each Fourth of July. Here in Baltimore, we have plenty of reasons to celebrate: Maryland played an important role during the Revolutionary War, serving as a hub for political activity and the site of many critical moments during the war for independence.
Did you know it was even the nation's capital for two months in 1776? Fourth of July celebrations have certainly evolved since then, but the holiday is still a great time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family.
Where to Celebrate

Cherry Hills Arts & Music Waterfront Festival
This year marks the 7th annual Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival, held from 1pm to 10pm at Middle Branch Park. The festival is a celebration of unity for Baltimore and beyond, featuring local musicians, interactive art opportunities, and much more.
AVAM’s Pet Parade
Do you have a patriotic pet? The American Visionary Art Museum’s Pet Parade is bound to be the cutest event of the holiday. Pets will parade through Federal Hill, then compete in a talent show. The most paw-some participants will even receive prizes! The event starts at 9am, so it’s the perfect place to kick off your celebration.
The Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Independence Day Celebration
The Baltimore Museum of Industry is hosting an Independence Day Celebration on the waterfront in Federal Hill, starting at 6pm. The event is a fundraiser, so not only will you get the best view of the fireworks, but you’ll also be giving back to our city. Tickets are $95 per vehicle and must be purchased in advance. As a bonus, museum admission is included with your ticket.
Baltimore's Biggest Fireworks Show
If you want the quintessential Charm City Fourth of July experience, you need to see the fireworks over the Inner Harbor. The fireworks will start around 9:15pm, but you might want to get there early to secure a good spot. If you do, you can enjoy food, games, a DJ along the promenade, and so much more.
Fourth of July at Fort McHenry
Want to spend the national holiday at a historic site? The Fourth of July event at Fort McHenry is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend Independence Day at the birthplace of the star-spangled banner. History buffs will appreciate their schedule of events, including park ranger-hosted lessons.

Memorial Day is almost here. While we all appreciate the extra day off, it’s also important to step back and consider the significance of the holiday.
Each year, Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor veterans who have died in service and commemorate their sacrifices. It was declared a federal holiday in 1971 and is now celebrated annually on the last Monday of May.
Honoring Veterans This Memorial Day
If you’re looking for a way to honor veterans this Memorial Day, we’ve gathered a few ideas. From historic memorials to exciting fundraisers, there are lots of things to do here in Baltimore this Memorial Day.
Participate in a Fundraiser
Consider giving back through a fundraiser or other Memorial Day events. One example is The Murph Challenge, an annual fundraiser event honoring LT. Michael P. Murphy. Participants complete physical challenges and compete to make the leaderboard, honoring the lieutenant and the sacrifices of all veterans.
Display Your Red, White, and Blue
Show your support for veterans with the colors of the flag. Wear a red, white, and blue outfit, or get some festive decorations for your apartment. If you choose to put up a flag, make sure to follow the Department of Veterans Affairs' guidelines for proper flag display.
Participate in Memorial Day Traditions
There are also lots of traditions and events associated with the holiday. Some organizations pass out paper poppies as a sign of remembrance that you can wear. Or, you can get crafty and make your own.
Visit a War Memorial
There are many war memorials and important sites here in Baltimore that you can visit in honor of Memorial Day.
You can visit the Grove of Remembrance, which honors World War I veterans, or stop by the World War II Memorial in Medfield.
Or, visit the Maryland Korean War Memorial located in Canton Waterfront Park, which honors veterans of the Korean War.
The War Memorial is another Baltimore landmark that pays respect to all Maryland veterans.
Also not too far from your home at 101 Cross Street is Fort McHenry, a historic site that symbolizes the efforts of American soldiers at the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.

How many digits of pi can you remember? The first three have led to one of March’s most fun holidays: Pi Day. Math and pie enthusiasts alike celebrate Pi Day on 3/14, a nod to both the first three digits of pi and Albert Einstein’s birthday. In 2009, the holiday was officially recognized by legislation from the U.S. House of Representatives.
So, go ahead and treat yourself to a delicious pie, in the name of science! We’ve rounded up a few great pie options including traditional dessert pies, pizza pies, and pot pies. Try one and you just might find your new favorite pie in Baltimore.

It’s always a good time for pie at Pie Time in Patterson Park. They have both sweet and savory pies so you can satisfy any craving. Flavors rotate through the year, but one of their popular pies is Maple Bourbon Pecan, featuring maple syrup with Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, vanilla, and chocolate chips.
Dangerously Delicious Pies

If you’re overwhelmed by the ordeal of preparing a large holiday meal, don’t worry. Hosting doesn’t have to mean spending the whole day in the kitchen. Lots of local restaurants are offering special Thanksgiving packages for takeout and delivery. Let one of these local favorites prepare your Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving meal:
The Capital Grille
For a traditional holiday spread, look into The Capital Grille’s menu. This popular downtown steakhouse is serving mouth-watering favorites like brioche stuffing, cranberry-pear chutney, and French green beans for Thanksgiving orders.
Order deadline: There is no deadline to order for pick up on Nov. 23 or the morning of Thanksgiving.
Sally O’s
This funky Highlandtown spot offers classic Thanksgiving sides with special Sally O’s flair, including Velveeta-style shells and cheese, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, braised collard greens, cornbread stuffing, and creamed spinach. Eddie’s of Roland Park
Known for its “Holiday in a Box” family feasts, Eddie’s of Roland Park is an excellent option for Friendsgiving orders. Create your own ideal package and select from traditional hand-carved or whole turkey dinners. Or, try the “Turkey Dinner Nouveau” that offers a fresh spin on the classics like apple sausage stuffing and truffled mushroom-thyme gravy. Best of all, proceeds from each order will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank, so your Thanksgiving celebration can give back.

Atwater’s
This Charm City fixture has four locations across Baltimore, so you can set pickup at whichever destination is most convenient for you. Bin 604 Wine + Spirits
Treat your guests to drinks from Bin 604 Wine + Spirits in Harbor East. They’ll be open for a few hours on Thanksgiving Day, so you can swing by anytime. Check out their special holiday offerings, including a “Turkey Pack” and “Funky Turkey Pack,” each with six wine bottles hand-picked to suit holiday flavors.

How to Host the Perfect Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving
The more food, the better.
If you want to show off your culinary talents, but don’t want to cook a full meal, you can always prepare a few appetizers or hor d’oeuvres. Shop for your favorite ingredients at Giant, our neighborhood’s newest grocery store. The store is opening this Friday, just in time to stock up on Friendsgiving essentials. The first 500 customers to arrive after they open at 5am will even receive a free turkey and pie!
Curate the vibes.
To really impress your guests, decorate your apartment home for the big feast. It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated; a few festive touches can go a long way. For example, try adding a centerpiece or placeholder decorations to the table. You can create the tablescape of your dreams with decor from Best Day Ever, a boutique gift shop in Canton Square.
Just enjoy yourself!

Oh my gourd-ness, Halloween is almost here! While our contemporary celebrations are all about costumes and candy, Halloween was first an ancient Celtic religious observance called Samhain. This day, eventually renamed All Saints' Day, was celebrated on November 1st. The day before––October 31st––was called All Hallows Eve, which morphed into the name we recognize today.
Halloween Haunts in Baltimore
To help you plan the best spooky season ever, we’ve rounded up some great events and parties happening in Charm City.
Parties & Parades
Don’t miss the Great Halloween Lantern Parade & Festival at Patterson Park on Saturday, October 22nd, starting at 4pm for some festival Halloween vibes. The following weekend on October 29th, stop by Riverside Park for the SOBO Halloween Bash. Check out carnival games, a costume parade, and a fall market featuring local vendors.
If you want to rave the night away, Power Plant’s Halloween Rally: Glow Edition on October 27th is the place to be. You can also get your boo-gie on at The Maryland Science Center’s one-of-a-kind Halloween event on October 29th at 7pm. This night at the museum features DJ sets, tribute bands, and even a rooftop dance party. Or, head to Ottobar that night for a Halloween Drag Show & Dance Party to remember.
Drinking & Dining
It’s time to eat, drink and be scary! Grab your ghouls for Drag Brunch at The Point on October 21st. Enjoy $25 bottomless drinks and a great show by Robyn Yamen. Don’t forget to reserve your seat in advance as tickets are limited. Robyn is also hosting Drag Bingo at the Ministry of Brewing on October 20th. Proceeds will benefit the Trevor Project, so you can party to support a great cause.
On the Saturday before Halloween, join the Baltimore Halloween Crawl on a trek through 10+ local bars. Your ticket includes access to drink specials, a souvenir spooky mug, and a raffle entry. Then, recover with Sunday Funday Halloween Costume Brunch at 11am the next morning. The amazing menu features mouth-watering dishes, like savory Dutch baby pancakes with smoked salmon & creme fraiche, cheesecake-stuffed pumpkin bread, and warm apple cider.
More Halloween Fun
There are plenty of other ways to join the spooktacular Halloween fun. Museum enthusiasts can visit the ​​American Visionary Art Museum on October 27th for free museum admission and a Halloween celebration. Biking enthusiasts can join Baltimore Bike Party’s Halloween ride on October 28th, including a ride through the city that culminates in an afterparty at Monument City Brewing.

101 Cross Street residents: After a long spring, June is finally here. Not only does June mark the official start of summer, but it also holds some important holidays and celebrations, including Pride Month and Juneteenth.
Celebrating Pride
While it’s vital to show love and support for the LGBTQ community year-round, Pride Month is celebrated in June for a reason. On June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Uprising marked a significant shift in LGBTQ activism. Since then, Pride Month has been held each June to honor the LGBTQ community and encourage all to show their support.
Charm City is celebrating Pride with some amazing events this year.
Show off your pride at the Pride parade on Saturday, June 25th, departing from Charles St. at 1pm. Be sure to stick around for the 47th annual Baltimore Pride Block Party, the largest LGBTQ event in Maryland.
Twilight on the Terrace is back after a 2-year hiatus. This event is a staple of Baltimore Pride, featuring craft cocktails from Gertrude's, performances by local artists, and lots of dancing.
Pride is for everyone, regardless of age. The ELDERPRIDE event at Druid Hill Park and the Youth Pride Party are great chances to connect with LGBTQ community members of all ages and honor LGBTQ history.
Honoring Juneteenth
Like Pride Month, Juneteenth is held in June because of a key historical event. On June 19, 1865, all remaining slaves in Texas were freed following the Emancipation Proclamation, and it is recognized as the official end to slavery in the U.S. Now, Juneteenth is an annual observance and important opportunity to honor Black history and show support for the Black community.

Juneteenth Expo Event
On Saturday, June 18th, See Through Her Eyes is presenting the Juneteenth Expo Event. This is a great event for any current or aspiring business people: they're offering professional headshots by eAndrew Murry and excellent networking opportunities. After, you can unwind with some hor d’oeuvres and live music by Dizzy DJ.
GIVETHX Party: Juneteenth Edition
Celebrate community and get your groove on at the GIVETHX Party at Eager Park on June 19th. No matter your favorite genre, you can dance the day away––a live DJ will be playing everything from house music to disco, plus a drum circle will offer rhythmic beats.
Baltimore City Prevention Convention
Join Brown Girl Wellness for a free Juneteenth event: a walking tour at the Sagamore Pendry on June 16th. The tour will highlight the history of African communities in Baltimore, the importance of Juneteenth, and other essential stories about our city’s legacy.
Juneteenth at Homewood: Expressions of Freedom
Take a break on Friday, June 17th, from 12-2pm to attend a free luncheon at The Homewood Museum lawn. This event honors the achievements and stories of Baltimore's Black ancestors.
